It amazes us how overlooked sun screen is to seasoned kite boarders. When most of us first started learning to kite, we would apply lots of sunscreen though as time goes on we feel and think we become immune to the sun's harmful rays.
Did you know that more people get skin cancer, than all other cancers combined. Sunscreen is one of the main ways to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays. Getting 30 minutes of direct sunlight can have its health benefits though staying in the sun unprotected for hours and hours can have negative effects.
Here are some tips about sunscreen we have learned over the years:
-Apply sunscreen when you are dry. Once applied wait 10 minutes before entering the water.
-Avoid unprotected direct sunlight between 10am-2pm. This is the easiest time to get burnt.
-Get a water resistant - broad spectrum UVA / UVB 30 SPF+ protection sunscreen.
-It is best to use an Oxybenzone (reef safe) / Paraben / PABA / Oil / Retinyl Palmitate / Propylene Glycol free sunscreen
-Avoid applying sunscreens in eyebrows and hairline. This is one way to make the sunscreen drip into your eyes and irritate them.
These are just some tips and a reminder to use sunscreen as we approach summer time! Now the question is… are you someone who uses sunscreen? Do you have any favorite brands you trust?
