With over 2,000 miles of magnificent beaches, resorts, and most importantly waves, Baja, California Sur in Mexico is the place to be if you want a one-of-a-kind kiteboarding experience.
Not only will visitors enjoy fun in the sun, Baja offers an array of activities from exploring ancient caves, strolling through enchanting villages, to fishing at some of the worlds’ most remote fishing camps. No matter one’s level or ability, Baja offers enjoyment, and is a great place to kiteboard.
Why Kite Baja California in Mexico?
For starters, it’s in Mexico, ARRIBA, ARRIBA! If that is not enough, then soak this in. Baja is known for its adventure. You can find unexplored areas of this remote peninsula. Best of all, there are an incredible number of spectacular beaches, a rewarding experience for kiteboarders. If you are looking for a windy conditions, warm water and good swell, then this place is for you. Two popular destinations are La Ventana and Los Barilles. There are two IKO Affiliated Centers in Mexico located in those spots, ready for your wildest kiteboarding dreams.
Kiteboarding Baja in Los Barriles
Los barriles is located between Cabo San Lucas and La paz in the south of la Ventana. This is a great spot for waves riding.
Kiteboarding Baja (KB), Los Barriles, IKO’s first school, is nestled closest to the peninsula tip, offering optimal riding conditions from October to June.
KB has a great reputation among the locals for being one of the best kiteboarding schools in the area The waters are almost constantly “glassy” with 16 to 25 knots of steady winds from the North. KB offers powerboat courses, boat courses and power kiteboarding courses. No matter the level, any kiteboarder can advance at Los Barriles, which locals and kiteboarding enthusiasts refer to as “kiteboarding mecca”.

Girlonaboard in La Ventana
Girlonaboard is located further North in the Baja in beautiful La Ventana. With a large bay and consistent wind, La Ventana is a great place for kitesurfing in Mexico. This is a small fishing village about 2h30 from Cabo San Lucas and 45 minutes from la Paz.
Offering optimal riding winds of 18-25 knots from October to March, La Ventana allows riders to experience the majestic rush of wind surfing during prime riding times. Offering equipment rentals and lessons in kiteboarding, paddle boarding, paddleboard Yoga, traditional Yoga and jet skiing, Girlonaboard is your one-stop shop for excitement and adventure. Additionally, all lessons are filmed with a Go-Pro and used to help support learning.
Kiteboarding Baja and Girlonaboard are both IKO Affiliated Centers with all instructors IKO certified. Both have gear that is the latest, most advanced on the market. If you are lucky, while in the ocean, you may even experience a possible encounter with some of the world’s rarest sea life, such as the elusive Vaquita porpoise. Travelers refer to this peninsula paradise as “The World’s Aquarium” or the “World’s Greatest Fish Trap.”
