The New Version of the Instructor Manual is now available
28 May 2014
The IKO is pleased to announce the release of our newly updated Instructor Manual, version V5-1-4. This version was updated in April 2014. Read on to find out what is new and how to get it.
What is new in this version?
This new version brings you a world of updates that encapsulate techniques and teaching methods that emerged as the kiteboarding sport evolved. In this version, we have included content that equips IKO Instructors with the latest training methods needed for teaching students the most recent techniques arising from today’s kiteboarding.
This year’s updates are special. We put a lot more work into the updates, and our team efforts have made this the best Instructor Manual ever produced to date. The content has been standardized. The teaching method now refined and better explained with step-by-step real-life examples including more interaction possibilities between instructors and Examiners.
For example, a full lesson plan is described in detail with a complementary visual lesson plan in a separate section to serve as a quick reminder.
The evaluation criteria are better refined and completely standardized so that any candidate can self-evaluate based on quantified or measurable references. The final evaluation method and criteria are made accessible to the candidates at the beginning of the course and after the Instructor Training Course paths are clearly explained.
This edition’s overall quality is improved with special attention given to images that clearly and easily illustrate the lessons for the purpose of increasing and speeding up comprehension.

In the appendix, you will find new information and detailed explanations that is core to the training of instructors on subjects specific to kiteboarding such as: meteorology; equipment; aerodynamics; powerboat; and a lot more!
We want to extend a special thanks to David and Suzie Dorn for their work in this update.
Please Note: You may see slight updates in the future as we will constantly be making updates that will be based on the feedback we receive from the ITCs.
